Relaxed and Refined
White + Warren President Catherine Morrissey’s work-from-home wardrobe is a luxe spin on loungewear. With spring on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to lighten the mood and upgrade your loungewear game. Instead of traditional sweats, I’ll be doing that in White + Warren’s new luxe cotton knits. In three perfect neutrals, the well-edited collection of four versatile styles can be seamlessly mixed or matched, dressed up or down, and coordinate to look elegant with ease. As more women are dressing for comfort and speed (myself included), they need pieces that can bridge the gap between seasons as well as make the move from the sofa to the street. So, I decided to put the idea of loungewear as everyday-wear to the test with a week’s worth of knit looks that would accommodate the range of scenarios on my iCalendar without ever leaving the comfort zone. Here are the results.
After a weekend of dressing inherently more casual, I like to start my Monday off on a
polished note—if not for the benefit of my colleagues on Zoom but for my own productivity. That means a proper woven pant and knit cotton separates—both exceedingly comfortable when sitting at a desk all day. The tank fits close to the body, so it creates a seamless finish when tucked into high-waisted trousers and will pair just as well with a pretty skirt this spring.
If you’re looking for comfort without resorting to a sweatsuit, I recommended White + Warren’s new take on head-to-toe knitwear. Worn together, the knit top and pants have the appearance of a jumpsuit without the added inconvenience of wearing a onesie. Plus, you can most definitely wear this look on mom-duty. With sneakers, it’s a grown-up take on athleisure.
As a self-proclaimed “pants person,” you’re more likely to find me in trousers than leggings or joggers. Fortunately, this chic, ever-so-comfy culotte is a happy medium. They have the same stretch appeal as sweats and are infinitely more figure-flattering, thanks to the soft touch of structure that holds you in at all the right places. The pintucked details down the front are reminiscent of suit pants, but rendered in this cozy cotton, it strikes the right balance of refined and relaxed for afternoon coffee with a friend...or on any day of the week.
Anything in black can instantly be dressed up or down...even loungewear. But what’s nice about this knitwear for date night is the elongating effect. With fitted jeans, the ribbed cardigan with the slim tank underneath creates such a long and lean silhouette that I leave my heels at home in favor of fancy flats. Plus, clever side slits move with you instead of clinging at the knee. In springtime, I’ll wear this cardigan in lieu of a leather jacket—it’s the ultimate second layer.
